CENTRAL TRANSPORT CUSTOMERS BENEFIT FROM “ACE” CERTIFICATION


Warren, Michigan, May 10, 2006 - Earlier this year Central Transport was among the first carriers to be certified by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for its Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) electronic manifest program. With many carriers still pending certification, Central Transport is making a big improvement to its customers’ service standards, providing a quicker turn around time at border crossings as well as participating in a more secure border safety system.

ACE, the new U.S. trade processing system, is the next generation of technology designed to enhance national border security and expedite lawful trade. It is the most extensive change to border clearance in over 20 years - it will automate the process of tracking U.S. imports and provide a systematic, unified approach to border enforcement, replacing the outdated Automated Commercial System and paper processing. It is intended to be the new and improved merger of five predecessor entry documents processing programs.

Being ACE Certified creates many benefits and opportunities for both Central Transport and its customers. For instance, it enables the company to:

  • Submit an automated manifest (e-Manifest) to CBP using CBP approved Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
  • Reduce processing time at border crossings and increase the chance for trucks to be released at the primary booth
  • Track the status of company employees, equipment and shipments (i.e. check that they have arrived, are being held, or have been released)
  • Create reports to evaluate and identify compliance issues and risks.
  • Even though its rollout has met delays, the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is pushing it now at full speed, working strenuously to expand the program and meet the goal of full ACE rollout in 2007. The program is expected to be fully operational at all U.S. border crossings by 2010 and, once completed, it will cover the full gamut of Customs activities, with over 80 government agencies integrated, providing a single source to the trade community.
